<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lateral acceleration sensor abnormality detector for for detecting the abnormalities of a lateral acceleration sensor, without causing increase in the number of components. <P>SOLUTION: The lateral acceleration sensor fault detector 20 comprises a current/voltage sensor 22 for detecting the current/voltage values of an electric motor 13 in an electric power steering apparatus 10; and a torque sensor 23 for detecting torque applied to a steering system. The lateral acceleration sensor fault detector 20 compares estimated lateral acceleration calculated from a current value outputted from the current/voltage sensor 22 with lateral acceleration outputted from the lateral acceleration sensor 8.
