<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of early evaluating a population of microbes on the basis of an oxygen current. <P>SOLUTION: Various settings used for processings according to a flowchart are reset in a step 100. The oxygen current Inew is measured in a step 101. The gradient of the oxygen current is determined in a step SA. Whether or not the gradient comes stable is determined in a step SB. A first measurement time is determined in a step SC. The oxygen current Inew is measured sequentially to determine the stability of the gradient in the step SB. Until the gradient is determined to be stable, the gradient of the oxygen current is updated and determined. Therefore, two destinations are designated in the step SB. If the gradient is determined to be stable, the processing goes from the step SB to the step SC.
