PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for removing an environmentally burdensome substance, which can demonstrate excellent adsorption and decomposition capabilities without relying on a noble metal catalyst or requiring a high temperature for the catalytic reaction in the presence or absence of light, and a method of preparing the same.

SOLUTION: The catalyst for removing an environmentally burdensome substance is characterized by comprising silicon carbide. The method of preparing the above catalyst for removing an environmentally burdensome substance according to the present invention is characterized by comprising at least either a heat treatment process that applies heat treatment or a pulverizing process that applies pulverizing treatment thereto.
