<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with high display contrast viewed from the front face direction and with restricted viewing angle characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises a twisted nematic alignment mode liquid crystal cell and a pair of polarizing plates disposed on both sides of the liquid crystal cell, wherein at least one polarizing plate has a polarizing film and a cellulose acylate film arranged nearer to the liquid crystal cell side than the polarizing film and satisfying inequalities (I) and (II). (I) 0≤Re(630)≤10 and ¾Rth(630)¾≤25, (II) ¾Re(400)-Re(700)¾≤10 and ¾Rth(400)-Rth(700)¾≤35, wherein Re(λ) represents a retardation value in the front face direction at λnm wavelength (unit:nm) and Rth(λ) represents a retardation value in the film thickness direction at λnm wavelength (unit:nm). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
