PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for well controlling the output of a controlled object while properly compensating for the influences of dynamic changes in the frequency property of the controlled object. SOLUTION: A control unit 7 for controlling an exhaust system E as an object, e.g., uses the output of an O<SB>2</SB>sensor 6 for detecting the output of the exhaust system E to identify the parameter of a model of the exhaust system E and uses an identification value for finding a control input specifying an input to the exhaust system E so as to converge the output of the O<SB>2</SB>sensor to a predetermined target value. The parameter is identified so as to minimize a deviation between the output of the model and the output of the O<SB>2</SB>sensor to which filtering treatment is applied. The characteristic of a gain to the frequency of the filtering treatment is properly changed with the amount of exhaust gas which gives influences to the frequency property of the exhaust system E.
