Control for turbocharged IC engine with a progressive change in target level for air pressure for a stable run up of torque

A control system for a turbocharged IC engine has a variable intermediate target level for the turbocharger output which progressively increases to the target pressure related to the driver selected settings without risk of overshoot and with a smooth torque run up. The control module regulates the throttle valve setting and monitors the actual air pressure as well as the final target air pressure and the variable intermediate pressure in preset conditions of the engine, e.g. during torque run up. Outside the preset conditions the control is directly via the throttle valve settings.
