Installation for identification of occupants detects presence of person in vehicle using control signals detected by sensor in floor covering of vehicle which link to and control restraining means

Installation has a sensor which can detect the presence of someone in the foot space (2a) of a vehicle. It has a control unit designed to deduce a control signal for the restraining means, for example airbag, from the control signal, and hence control the restraint. The sensor is integrated into the floor covering which can be parted using separating gaps (3a,3b) and partially replaced. The layout is chosen so that the sensor comes to rest in a separable part and can be changed easily.
