<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an in-plane magnetic recording medium which has a high medium S/N and has no problem of an overwrite characteristic, and which is excellent in a bit error rate and also sufficiently stable to thermal fluctuation. <P>SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium with a base film, a magnetic film, and protective film formed in order on a substrate, the magnetic film is a cobalt group alloy film containing chromium and has two or more magnetic layers laminated without a non-magnetic layer in-between. The two or more magnetic layers comprise 1st, 2nd, and 3rd magnetic layers, the 1st magnetic layer is arranged between the base film and the 2nd magnetic layer, the 2nd magnetic layer is arranged between the 1st magnetic layer and the 3rd magnetic layer, and the 3rd magnetic layer is arranged between the 2nd magnetic layer and the protective film. The concentration of chromium contained in the 1st magnetic layer is lower than that of chromium contained in the 2nd magnetic layer, film thickness of the 1st magnetic layer is thinner than that of the 2nd magnetic layer, the magnetic layers on the upper layer side of the 1st magnetic layer further contain platinum and boron, and the concentration of chromium contained in the 3rd magnetic layer is lower than that of chromium contained in the 2nd magnetic layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
