摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminator and a rear projection video display device capable of realizing the optimization of a generation system for each color video light and the improvement of assemblability by making the generation system independent without requiring a dichroic prism. <P>SOLUTION: Each of video light projection units 10 is constituted of an LED array 11, a rod integrator 12, a liquid crystal display panel 13 and a projection lens 14. The projection optical axes of the projection lenses 14 in the respective video light projection units 10 are parallel with each other. The red video light projection unit 10R is equipped with the LED array 11R emitting light in a red wavelength band, the green video light projection unit 10G is equipped with the LED array 11G emitting light in a green wavelength band, and the blue video light projection unit 10B is equipped with the LED array 11B emitting light in a blue wavelength band. Then, each color video light obtained by being transmitted through the liquid crystal display panel 13 is enlarged and projected by the projection lens 14, reflected on a screen 6 and superposed on the screen 6 so as to display a full color video. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p>
