PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable camshaft timing system capable of actively controlling a locking pin. SOLUTION: The variable camshaft timing system is provided with a vane 106 rotatable to change the relative angle positions of a housing and a rotor; the locking pin 120 provided to be releasable from lock by oil pressure supplied from an advance chamber 102 or a retard chamber 104 and locking the position of the rotor to the housing; and a spool 109. Each land of the spool 109 allows a fluid to move from the advance chamber to the retard chamber in a retard position, allows the fluid to move from the retard chamber to the advance chamber in an advance position, allows the supplied fluid to move to each chamber in a zero position, and allows the fluid supplied to one chamber, to move the locking pin into a locked position, in the locked position.
