PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control unit for an electric shutter, which prevents an upper-limit or lower-limit position of a shutter curtain from being registered as a wrong one, even in the case of return from a power failure. SOLUTION: This method comprises: a first step of making the shutter curtain ascend or descend; a second step of detecting an overload in the ascending or descending shutter curtain, and of temporarily storing the detected position as the upper-limit or lower-limit position of the shutter curtain; a third step of making the shutter curtain continuously ascend or descend from the detected upper-limit or lower-limit position; and a fourth step of determining whether or not the amount of the continuous movement of the shutter curtain in the third step corresponds to that of the maximum movement of the shutter curtain, and of setting the temporarily stored upper-limit or lower-limit position as the upper-limit or lower-limit one, when the amount of the continuous movement corresponds to that of the maximum movement.
