PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stitching apparatus having at least one active thread feeder and adjusted in stitching operation according to the condition of a thread to be stitched. SOLUTION: The stitching apparatus includes a needle case operatively following at least a first needle, a contact element joined to the needle case, at least a first thread sensor attached to the needle case and outputting a signal having information related to thread tension, an upper thread extending from a spool to the first needle, a lower thread extending from a bobbin to a rotary hook, engaged with the upper thread during stitching, and creating upper thread tension, and circuitry operatively associated with the first thread sensor. When the upper thread is broken, the first thread sensor and the circuitry determines break in the upper thread, and when the lower thread is broken, the first thread sensor and the circuitry determines break in the lower thread.
