Grinding media include multiple carbide-forming elements, with carbon, having a density greater than 8 gm/cc and a combination of hardness and toughness sufficient to permit use in a media mill without contamination of the milled product to an amount greater than about 300 ppm. A method for making spheres and particles of the grinding media is presented, as is the use of the particles as an abrasive medium. Also presented are unique particles of intermetallic compounds or catalysts, as well as method of making the particles of intermetallic compounds or catalysts. |
