Stapler (10), in particular for hemorrhoidal use, includes a body (12), an elongate, fixed jaw part (16) connected to the body (12) and including a curved anvil (28) defining staple-forming pockets and a curved portion (24) defining an opening (36) bound on lateral and longitudinal sides, an actuating jaw part (18) including a curved staple driver (62) and optionally a cutting knife (58), a trigger (20) coupled to the body (12) for actuating the actuating jaw part (18) and an adjustment mechanism (68) for moving the actuating jaw part (18) to vary a longitudinal dimension of a space defined between a staple cartridge (46) and the anvil (28). When the actuating jaw part (18) is actuated by the trigger (20), the staple driver (62) forces staple blanks in the staple cartridge (46) into staple-forming pockets of the anvil (28) to form staples in tissue retained in the opening, while the cutting knife (58), when present, amputates the tissue.
