<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disconnection detecting method of a charging wire for a battery charger, which is controlled based on data exchanged via a communication means, and detects disconnection of the charging wire with simple constitution, without newly providing an A/D conversion circuit, and to provide a battery charger. <P>SOLUTION: The battery charger for vehicles includes an external control device, an alternator for the vehicles, and the charging line. A battery is connected to the alternator for the vehicles via the charging wire. The external control device includes a determining portion which decides that the charging line is disconnected, when a voltage of the battery is lower than a predetermined voltage threshold, and an operating rate of the alternator for the vehicles is lower than the threshold of the predetermined operating rate, by which the disconnection of the charging wire is detected with a simple configuration, without adding the A/D conversion circuit. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
