<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an orthogonal stitch-weave method and a fiber architecture. <P>SOLUTION: A method of forming the architecture (48) includes a step for positioning a predetermined number of pins (70) on a base which extends perpendicularly on the surface of the base and are arranged over the lateral direction of the base to form the general outline of a desired preform shape, a step for arranging a first predetermined number of weft tows (54) adjacent to the pins in a first path forming the general outline of the desired preform shape, a step for arranging a predetermined number of stitcher tows (56) adjacent to the first predetermined number of weft tow (54), perpendicular to the path forming the general outline of the desired preform shape and adjacent to the pin (70) and a step for advancing the pins through the base in the perpendicular direction to maintain a length of pin sufficient to arrange the weft tow (54) and stitcher tows (56). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
