PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a battery useful for manufacturing the battery and capable of contributing to safety in use of the battery manufactured, and to provide a method of manufacturing the battery using the separator. SOLUTION: The separator for the battery comprises a foamed sheet of a reactive polymer formed by reacting a crosslinking agent comprising a multi-functional compound having reactivity to a functional group so that part of the functional group reacts with a crosslinkable polymer having the functional group. The battery is manufactured in such a way that an electrode sheet/separator laminate is formed by laminating the electrode sheet on the separator and bonding them, the laminate is put into a battery container, and an electrolyte in which the crosslinking agent comprising the multi-functional compound having reactivity to the functional group of a reactive polymer forming the separator is dissolved is poured in the battery container to crosslink the reactive polymer, and thereby, the electrode sheet is bonded to the separator.
