<p>This invention allows Ethernet to run on a ring topology by introducing breaks between the nodes (Fig. 5). The system can also reconfigure its topology in order to recover from failures (1520). This is accomplished by placing intelligent nodes (500, 510, 520, & 530) on the ring that work together to virtually break and restore the ring.</p>
