摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optic device and a surface modified electrode comprising a reduced organic material. <P>SOLUTION: The reduced organic material lowers the work function of an electrode surface and at the same time, is also electro-active. These capabilities facilitate its use in the manufacture of a more efficient electro-optic device. The electro-optic device has at least a first conductive layer, a second conductive layer, and an electro-active layer of the reduced organic material disposed between the first and second conductive layers. The surface modified electrode comprises at least one conductive layer and at least one kind of reduced organic material. Methods are disclosed for manufacturing an electro-optic device using the organic electro-active material and for operating the electro-optic device.
