PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scum retarder and a method for retarding scum that are very useful for treating machine sewing thread with an oiling agent particularly when a dimethyl silicone emulsion is used as an oiling agent. SOLUTION: When textile product is treated with a scum retarder including amine oxide and dimethyl silicone emulsion, the scum retarder is used together with the dimethyl silicone emulsion.
