PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation angle detector having a new configuration because needs to the rotation angle detector are diversified based on the specification or the like of a mounted system. SOLUTION: The rotation angle detector 1 comprises two tracks disposed on circumferences having different diameters about the axial center of a rotating plate 10, slits 12a-14d disposed in each track, and optical sensors PH11-PH23 for detecting existence of these slits 12a-14d. The rotation angle detector 1 comprises a first recording means for recording angle data that is set correspondingly to each predetermined angle of the rotating plate 10 and where combination at an adjacent angle changes periodically, a second recording means for recording a binary code detected by each of optical sensors PH11-PH23, and an angle detecting means for determining the rotation angle of the rotating plate 10 based on the combination of the binary code output from each of optical sensors PH11-PH23 and a past binary code and the combination of the angle data of the first recording means.
