PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foreign substance inspection device in simple constitution suitable to detect optically foreign substances coming to be mixed into raw materials laid to be conveyed on a conveyer. SOLUTION: The foreign substance inspection device that is equipped with an illuminant illuminating the light containing visible light and near infrared beam uniformly over the whole area in the across-the-width direction of the aforementioned conveyer and a deviation mechanism scanning optically the illuminated domain by the light containing visible light and near infrared beam on the conveyer in the across-the-width direction of the conveyer concerned, is characterized by including an optical system for viewing locally the illuminated domain by the light concerned, a photo detecting element for detecting the intensity of reflected light of visible light and near infrared beam from the raw material and/or the foreign substance coming to be mixed in the raw material concerned laid on the aforementioned conveyer via the optical system, respectively, and a foreign substance deciding means for deciding that the aforementioned foreign substance comes to be mixed in the raw material, when the difference value of the intensity of reflected light containing visible light and near infrared beam detected by the photo detecting element exceeds a predetermined level.
