PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting apparatus in which the occurrence of a cataphoresis phenomenon is prevented by controlling the leakage current of high frequency, at lighting of a discharge lamp at high frequencies. SOLUTION: The apparatus main body 10 comprises a lighting circuit for lighting a discharge lamp La at high frequency and a reflecting plate 11 which controls light distribution, in proximity with the discharge lamp La. In the reflecting plate 11, the distance dH from the end part on the high-voltage side of the discharge lamp La is established larger than the distance dL from the end part on low voltage side of the discharge lamp La. With this structure, for the identical frequency, the impedance on the high-voltage side of the discharge lamp La becomes larger and the leakage current is reduced, and thereby the difference of leakage current between the high-voltage side and the low voltage side of the discharge lamp La can be made smaller.
