PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collagen production promoter or skin care preparation containing, as active ingredient, a substance having collagen production-promoting activity that is found from highly safe natural matter. SOLUTION: The collagen production promoter or skin care preparation contains, as the active ingredient, extract from the fruit part of Prunus mume Siebold et Zuccarini. The extract is obtained, preferably by the following process: fruit juice or a concentrate thereof is mixed with an extracting solvent and the resulting mixed liquid is left to stand at a dark cold place for 5-10 days, wherein the extracting solvent is preferably an organic solvent or its mixture with water.
