PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric iron having excellent wrinkle-smoothing performance and ironing effect. SOLUTION: This electric iron includes: a base plate 3 having an ironing surface 5; and a heater 2 for heating the base plate. The ironing surface provided with the heater is provided with recessed parts 7, 9 formed corresponding to the heater. By this arrangement, contact area between the ironing surface and cloth piece or the other materials can be reduced to effectively eliminate uneven temperature of the ironing surface. In the case of a steam electric iron, steam atomized from a steam outlet of the base plate is spread to a region remote from the heater through the recessed parts to obtain an excellent wrinkle-smoothing effect.
