<p>Disclosed are a honeycomb structure capable of maintaining high durability over a long time and a sealing material layer used for firmly bonding or sealing such a honeycomb structure. Also disclosed is a honeycomb structure having a high gas purification efficiency. This honeycomb structure is composed of porous ceramic members respectively having a columnar honeycomb structure wherein many cells serving as exhaust gas passages are arranged in parallel with cell walls between them, and sealing material layers respectively having a specific surface area of 10-100 m<SUP>2</SUP>/g for being interposed between the ceramic members. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, an exhaust gas purifying device is formed by joining a plurality of the porous ceramic members while having the sealing material layers interposed therebetween.</p> |
