<p>The protector comprises two flanks(3,4) joined to each other at angle, in particular a right angle, and having flat inner sides. The angle(alpha ) between the flanks is less than the angle of the package or object to be protected. The angle(alpha ) between flanks is 1-15[deg], preferably 3-9[deg], smaller than the angle to be protected. At the apex of the two meeting flanks(3,4) and on the side facing the edge to be protected there is a groove(5). Flank cross-section from the apex of the connection to the free flank ends tapers. The flanks may have different lengths viewed in cross-section. On the outer faces of the flanks facing a tensioning strap there are stiffening ribs(6), each rib being perpendicular to the length of the edge protector(1). Rib spacing is at least equal to strap breadth and the length of the edge protector is at least three times the strap breadth. The free flank edges are rounded or flattened off, i.e. with a further taper increase. Longitudinal grooves(8) extend along the outside of the flanks in the region of the apex. An independent claim is included for a method of injection molding the edge protector with recycled PVC (polyvinyl chloride) granules.</p> |
