An alloy for use in a nuclear fuel element consists of:- .Mo.0.1 - 0.3% .Nb.0.6 - 0.8% .U.the remainder The alloy is homogenized by heating to the g phase (e.g 900 DEG C.) and cooling at 5 to 80 DEG C./ minute.
