The method involves producing a metal foam by activating a foamable precursor material. A glass/ceramic unit and a carrier unit are positioned relative to one another before the activation of the material. The glass/ceramic unit and carrier unit are joined to one another by the metal foam within a joining region. The metal foam is introduced into an intermediate space between the glass/ceramic unit and the carrier unit. An independent claim is also included for a radiation source with a glass/ceramic unit.
