The suspension and hoisting system for a load support comprises two cable circuits, each comprising a cable (C 1 , C 2 ) fixed at one of the ends thereof to a fixed point (Pf 1 , Pf 2 ) and at the other end to a lifting apparatus (T 1 , T 2 ) and being reeved around deflection pulleys (A 1 , A 2 , A 3 , B 1 , B 2 , B 3 ) mounted on two parallel shafts (Ax) located adjacent one and the other end, respectively, of the load support, the lifting apparatus (T 1 ) of one of the two cable circuits being provided above one of the ends of the load support and the lifting apparatus (T 2 ) of the other cable circuit being provided above the other end of the load support. The cable (C 1 ) of at least one of the cable circuits is reeved successively around at least two coaxial deflection pulleys (A 2 , A 3 , B 2 , B 3 ) mounted on each end shaft (Ax) according to such a path that on at least one of the end shafts (Ax) at least one pulley (A 1 ) of said one cable circuit rotates in the same direction as at least one pulley (A 2 ) of the other cable circuit under identical lifting or lowering action of the two lifting apparatus (T 1 , T 2 ), while these two pulleys (A 1 , A 2 ) are constrained to rotate in opposite directions by the same downwardly oriented force independently of the action of the lifting apparatus (T 1 , T 2 ). According to the invention these two pulleys (A 1 , A 2 ) are interlocked to reduce or eliminate any tendency of the load support to incline under the effect of this downward force.
