1,105,518. Capacitors. TELEGRAPH CONDENSER CO. Ltd. 10 June, 1965 [17 June, 1964], No. 24564/65. Heading H1M. Phosphorus, stated to inhibit oxygen migration is distributed in the anodic oxide layer forming the dielectric of a capacitor substantially uniformly or in relatively greater concentration in the region adjacent to the anode. The electrical properties of such a capacitor are less sensitive to heat treatment. The electrolytic capacitor shown is manufactured by impregnating the porous niobium, tantalum, titanium or zirconium pellet 11 with phosphorus, e.g. by heating it in a sealed evacuated tube containing red phosphorus, or by cathodic sputtering in a phosphorus-containing atmosphere. The pellet is anodized, e.g. in 0À1% H 2 SO 4 to form an oxide layer 12 having phosphorus distributed therein and the semiconductive layer 13 is manganese or lead dioxide formed by pyrolysis of a suitable precursor. An optional contact layer 14 of e.g. graphite may be applied before one contact electrode 15 of e.g. silver. Liquid electrolytes may alternatively be employed. |
