A method for promoting the fattening or for promoting the growth of enterobacteria in non-human animals comprises administrating a feed or drinking water comprising an agent and a dried agent. The agent comprises at least one of hexose-derived acids, non-toxic-salts thereof and intramolecular ester compounds thereof as an active agent and the dried agent comprises Megasphaera and/or Mitsuokella. Preferably the agent is gluconic acid, sodium gluconate, calcium gluconate or glucono delta lactone.
