An air filtering cartridge 16 is tested for leakes by clamping it between an aerosol generator 6 and a section of detector paper 14, the generator comprising a heater 34 which sublimates a red diazo dye from an impregnated paper disc 36, the dye entering an air stream drawn from duct 27 through the cartridge by suction applied to conduit 42 below the paper 14. The air stream is guided by cone 46 on to a section of paper enclosed by seal 64, and a coloured patch appears on a part of the paper corresponding to the position of any hole in the cartridge filter. Ring 44 is normally raised by stops (60) (Fig. 3, not shown), but is lowered to clamp a section of Lowered by handle (8) and attached levers paper 14 on grid 56 when generator 6 is (Figs. 1, 4, not shown) on to cartridge 16. This lowering closes a switch (68) to initiate the suction. Generator 6 carries discs 36 in grids 32, 33 in a slideway 28, and heater 34 is switched on by switch 92 as either grid moves into place below the heater. Cartridge 16 screws into ring 44. Connections 29, 54, 91 to pressure gauges enable seals to be checked. Paper 14 is supplied from a magazine roll below table 2 to a friction drive mechanism. (12) under cone 46.</p> |
