The analyzer has a furnace comprising an infrared heat source heating a cylinder in the furnace. An active water cooled plate is disposed between a balance chamber and the furnace. A null type balance (300) is disposed in the chamber and measures the weight of a sample and its variations with respect to the furnace temperature. Fixation hooks are fixed on the balance, where one of the hooks supports a material sample in a plate. An independent claim is also included for a method for calculating the weight of a sample in a thermogravimetric analyzer.
