The device has an iron with a metallic soleplate (1), and an ironing support (3) with a network of micro-coils (2). The micro-coils emit a magnetic field perpendicular to the support when subjected to an electrical current. The field generates an eddy current in the soleplate in order to heat the soleplate by Joule effect. Sensors are disposed on corners of the soleplate for locating the iron on surface of the support.
