The wire rope (15) wound off the rope drum (16,17) is deflected by a deflection roller (24,25). The deflecting roller is rotatable about a swivel axis (26,40,41) and is fixed on a swivelable crane jib (22). The deflection roller includes a sensor (29-32) for scanning the wire rope. The sensor for controlling one of the swivel axes has a rotary drive (39,42,44), for rotating the deflection roller about the swivel axes.
