THE OBJECT IS TO SIMPLIFY THE CONSTRUCTION OF A CHASSIS (31) THAT SERVES AS A MOUNTING BASE FOR THE PRINCIPAL COMPONENTS OF A DISK DRIVE (1) AND IMPROVE THE DIMENSIONAL ACCURACY AND FORM ACCURACY OF THE CHASSIS (31) FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE PRODUCTIVITY IN THE WORK OF ASSEMBLING THE DISK DRIVE (1). THE DISK DRIVE (1) IS PROVIDED WITH A RECORDING AND REPRODUCING UNIT (32) FOR RECORDING OR REPRODUCING INFORMATION ON A MINIDISK ENCASED IN A DISK CARTRIDGE (60), A HOLDER (11) FOR HOLDING THE DISK CARTRIDGE (60), A LOADING UNIT CAPABLE OF TRANSFERRING THE DISK CARTRIDGE (60) BETWEEN A MOUNTING AND DISMOUNTING POSITION WHERE THE DISK CARTRIDGE (60) CAN BE MOUNTED ON OR DISMOUNTED FROM THE HOLDER (11) AND A RECORDING AND REPRODUCING POSITION OF THE RECORDING AND REPRODUCING UNIT (32), DRIVE MECHANISMS CAPABLE OF DRIVING THE LOADING UNIT (11D, 12, 13 AND 42A) AND A FLAT-PLATE-SHAPED CHASSIS (31) THAT SERVES AS A MOUNTING BASE FOR THESE PRINCIPAL COMPONENTS. THE CHASSIS (31) IS SET TO A SPECIFIED THICKNESS, AND ITS BASE PORTION IS FORMED FLAT THROUGHOUT ITS ENTIRE SURFACE EXCEPT FOR A HOLE PORTION (31H) AND/OR A CUT PORTION (31N).(FIGURE 2)
