Disclosed is a polypeptide comprising from 2-12 zinc finger-nucleotide binding peptides at least one of which peptides contains a nucleotide binding region having the sequence of any of Seq ID No: 7-70 and 107-112. Polypeptides of the sequences defined bind to a nucleotide sequence 5'-(ANN)-3' wherein N is A, C, G or T and n is 2-6. These proteins are useful for the regulation of expression of nucleotide sequences containing the above sequence either in the promoter region, transcribed region or as an expressed sequence tag.
