The torsional vibration damper comprises two sections (1, 2) between which is a spring (3). This is contained in a closed chamber (5) which is defined by the edge of the first section (1) and a sheet metal guide (13) and has a load bearing surface (8) at the top. The edge of the first section and sheet metal guide are connected by a weld (7) positioned outside the load bearing surface. An independent claim is included for a method of manufacturing the damper.
