<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of satisfactorily performing both-sided image formation such that a high glossy image is formed on one side of a recording sheet and non-glossy or low-glossy image is formed on the other side. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has an output mode selection means for selecting and specifying, as an image output mode, a special output mode for forming and outputting a high glossy image on one side of a transfer material S. When a both-sided output is selected as the special output mode, the transfer material S is conveyed to an image forming section 202 and fixing device 1, where a high glossy image is output onto the first transfer material side. Then, a first fixing process is performed by a fixing means using a heat roller 6. Subsequently, the transfer material S is inverted by being conveyed along an inverting conveyance path 101 and both-sided conveyance path 102.
