PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic drive mechanism having simple construction for operating the stop of a hydraulic motor while suppressing the occurrence of cavitation in an operation oil path. SOLUTION: A short-circuit oil path consists of an upstream side oil path 41 via which pressure oil flows from the operation oil path 10 on a motor discharge side out of the pair of operation oil paths 10, 10 to an on-off valve 31, a downstream side oil path 42 via which the pressure oil flows from the on-off valve 31 to a counter balance valve 20, and a valve oil path 43 in the counter balance valve via which the pressure oil flows from the downstream side oil path 42 to the operation oil path 10 on a motor suction side. In the condition of being opened by the on-off valve 31, the short-circuit oil path 40 allows the flow of high pressure oil from the operation oil path 10 on the motor discharge side to the operation oil path 10 on the motor suction side. A check valve 44 is provided in the downstream side oil path 42. The check valve 44 prevents the flow of the pressure oil to the on-off valve 31 in the downstream side oil path 42.
