PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a butterfly valve of a split valve rod type with a valve rod hard to tilt even when a valve element is loaded with fluid pressure. SOLUTION: The butterfly valve comprises a body 12 having a flow path 11 for fluid, the valve element 15 having a fitting portion 15a and a valve rod insertion hole 15b passing therethrough in the radial direction and arranged in the flow path 11 for opening/closing the flow path 11, the first valve rod 13 inserted through the body 12 into the valve rod insertion hole 15b and fitted to the fitting portion 15a for transmitting rotating force via the fitting portion 15a to rotationally drive the valve element 15, and a second valve rod 14 rotatably supported on the body 12, inserted from the opposite side to the first valve rod 13 into the valve rod insertion hole 15b, and arranged coaxially with the first valve rod 13 for supporting the valve element at the side of the insertion edge of the first valve rod 13 beyond the center of the valve element 15.
