PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator governor capable of detecting the speed of a car with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The elevator governor comprises: a sheave 11 with a governor rope 10 wound therearound which is driven by the car 3 moving up and down in a hoistway 2; a first working body 16 which is coaxially fixed to the sheave and has a rotating face 16F formed of a dielectric material; a second working body 18 with permanent magnets 19A and 19B installed to face the rotating face and held by elastic members; a switch operation means 24 which is operated by the displacement of the second working body when the elevating speed of the car reaches the first set value so as to operate a switch for stopping the car; a holding body operation means 23 which is operated by the displacement of the second working body when the elevating speed of the car reaches the second set value so as to operate a holding body 21 for holding the governor rope; and a cooling fan 26 for cooling the first working body 16.
