PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator easily positioning a suspending member. SOLUTION: The elevator comprises: an elevator car 4 suspended by a main rope inside an elevator hoistway; a compensating rope and a tail cord 16 suspended from under the elevator car 4 inside the elevator hoistway; and a suspension position adjusting mechanism 17A for adjusting the suspension position of the tail cord 16.
