This invention is a method for extending the key application of a mobile terminal, belongs to the mobile communication field. This method comprises the following steps: a user notifies the operator of a message that a key and certain service provided by the operator are required to associated with each other; the operator sends content having a specific short message format to the user through the PC side software; the user's mobile terminal parses the short message after receiving the specific short message; the mobile terminal's software associates the key with certain service provided by the operator depending on the information obtained from the parse. The invention realizes the combination of the defining of the mobile terminal's key and the application of the short message, attains the association of the user's key with the operator's specific service, let the user realize the operator's specific service by the simplest and fastest way.
