PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of cleaning an inkjet head which can minimize an increase in the waste quantity of ink not used in printing and suppress an increase in the capacity of a waste ink tank which supports the waste ink, in an inkjet recording device. SOLUTION: Print image data are analyzed per ink color unit and the change in the density of the ink during printing is predicted. When the predicted change exceeds a tolerance quantity, the ink is ejected outside of a paper surface to avoid the clogging of the head to optimize cleaning action so as to minimize the cleaning action, thereby executing the cleaning.
