PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable correctly determine a timing of issuing a recording and storing instruction in a digital camera etc. for recording a series of images acquired immediately before for a predetermined time as motion picture in response to the recording and storing instruction. SOLUTION: The series of images of a picked-up object for a predetermined time are successively stored in a buffer before a shutter key is pressed. During that time, for example, past images (a-e) of the object per one second are selectively read from among the series of images of the object stored in the buffer, the read images are composited with determined regions G1-G5 of a through image 101 and displayed, and the images of the regions G1-G5 are successively updated in accordance with elapse of time. After that, when the shutter key is pressed, a motion picture for a predetermined time is generated from the series of images of the object stored in the buffer, and the generated picture is recorded.
