PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the comprehensive improvement of an image forming apparatus, such as an LED printer. SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus which performs variation compensation of an output by measuring the density of a test chart obtained by outputting prescribed image data, based on a prescribed transformation characteristic data, and by calculating new transformation characteristic data from the density information, an image forming apparatus of this invention is characterized in that the transformation characteristic data is calculated, based on a compensation coefficient and a compensation curve, at the time of printing the test chart, printing is performed, based on the transformation characteristic data calculated on the basis of the present compensation coefficient and the compensation curve of default, and at the time of performing regular printing other than test printing, printing is performed, based on the transformation characteristic data calculated on the basis of the present compensation coefficient and the present compensation curve.
