The present invention relates to methods of traffic measurements on a network. A difficulty with measuring traffic on a network is that frequently traffic will have been shaped before it reaches the point of measurement. The present invention is directed to obtaining a measure of shaped traffic before shaping on the basis of passive traffic observations of the shaped traffic. In particular, the invention provides a method of analysing a traffic aggregate of packets in a network comprising the steps of: separating the traffic aggregate into a series of individual co-temporal sub-aggregates; and performing a measurement using the individual sub-aggregates of the series to obtain a statistical measure for the traffic aggregate.
