TREATMENT OF SEWAGE SLUDGES

The invention relates to a method permitting the reduction in content of pathogens in sewage sludges, comprising the steps of (a) addition of an effective amount of a phosphorous compound to the sludges and (b) maintaining the phosphorous compound in contact with the sludge for a time sufficient to reduce the quantity of pathogens present in the sludge by a quantity equivalent to a logarithmic reduction of 2 or more.
